Letter from POFROC

 In Sailing

There is a lot of advice from many sources regarding the RETURNING TO BOATING. Guidance is moving very rapidly and we thought it appropriate to put some simple guidelines out.

1. Go out with a ‘Buddy’ boat and stay within a reasonable safe distance of each other.
2. Carry a VHF radio and / or a charged Mobile phone.
3. In a serious and life threatening situation dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. They are equipped for Covid19.
4. Let someone ashore know your timings on and off the water.
5. ALWAYS take an alternative means of propulsion in small boats.
6. Small boats should stay within the Harbour limits.
7. If fitted ALWAYS use a Kill Cord.
8. Be patient and try not to pass people on pontoons.
9. Before and after touching hand rails or ladders you should wash your hands or use an alcohol based hand sanitiser.
10. As always wear a life jacket.

Please note these are guidelines but please follow your clubs more detailed instruction for Covid 19 safety.

One major message missing off many postings and signage is the 999 message. The Coastguard are here to help us and are well equipped to guide you through any emergency. That’s what they do.

Please feel free to contact either of us if you have any questions.

Stay safe
