Fowey River Class mid-season racing round up
Since the Fowey River class championships back in May the Fowey River fleet have been busy racing in the mid-season series which concluded at the end of July.
In the Second Saturday series of eight races, which included three long distance races David and Alison Rundle in Kittiwake (63) counted five firsts and a third to win overall. Philip and Sian Henson in Zethar (68) won the other three races and with nothing outside of the top three in every race, took second overall by the small margin of two points. Andrew Dellow in Iota (51) with three seconds – splitting 63 and 68 was third followed by Trevor Kennedy in Saffron (49).
The Second Wednesday series was won by Zethar, who won three of the 8 races. Other races were won by Kittiwake (2) and Andy and Suzy Matthews in Kingfisher (53) (2) and Graham Slack in Guillemot (53). A solid string of second and thirds saw Bryn Baxter in Goldeneye (62) finish second overall from Iota in third and Saffron fourth.
The Friday series in still underway having been running from early June with two of the ten races still to come. A new handicap series is running currently being led by Saffron – but it is very close with her and David Gamble in Victory (39)- plenty to play for.
The Fifty Cup was raced over a Friday evening and Saturday afternoon – both races to count. Zethar and Kittiwake both had a first and third with Zethar winning on count back.
Crews have had opportunity to show their skills on the stick during the crew series which is held over a Saturday, a Friday and a Wednesday (2 to count). Colin Savage steering Iota won the series with a first and a third. Great to see a good turnout on the Friday race with a good number of boats enjoying a change of driver. Colin won one race, Alison Rundle and Suzy Matthews each won one too.
Obviously the big event on the horizon is the regatta and we look forward to seeing as many Fowey Rivers out as possible over that week. Good luck to everyone.
